The article, "The Big Payoff: Educational Attainment and Synthetic Estimates of Work-Life Earnings", provided a useful revelation concerning education and earnings. The article examined the issue of individuals going further in their educational pursuits and found that earnings increased with educational level (U.S. Census Bureau, 2002). The study illustrated earnings for individuals that represented different educational level. For example, individuals who achieved a doctorate degree earned more than individuals who only attained a high school diploma.
The Washington Research Council (1999) reported that the attainment of higher education produces a social investment that yields returns in future years. These returns consist of higher wages, tax benefits, and an overall enhanced life experience. Individuals in this category will be able to actively participate in the activities of acquiring goods and services which, in turn, create a stronger economy.
It is often argued that students would benefit from preparing for attendance at an educational institution of higher learning in the early stages of high school. However, it is our opinion that the educational process course for success begins at conception. At that exact moment, the parents have obligated themselves to providing a healthy, safe, and nurturing life for that child.
In the most extreme cases, there are parents unwilling to assist their children with achieving educational goals and desires. However, the majority of parents work diligently to offer their children the best opportunities for a successful educational experience.
Yet, parents and students alike often discover how difficult it is to fully grasp the intricacies of the educational process. For example, issues relating to the amount of funding received from scholarships and financial aid can be the determining factor when deciding on the best or more economical choice in attending a particular institution of choice. In many cases the student’s vision of where to attend school may not provide a good-fit for the economic circumstance of the parent.
Seeking an early and thoughtful foundation to the educational process is paramount. It is critical that students and parents are educated on how various departments and offices connect and share resources. More importantly, parents and students should be equipped with the strategies to foster a constructive rapport with service workers within the educational institution.
To this end, New Life International Community Development Corporation will assist the parents and their student to achieve their goal to attend the appropriate college or university that will enhance the quality of life for the family.
